Trenton, NJ – The New Jersey Higher Education Student Assistance
Authority (HESAA) announced today that it is canceling its membership
affiliation with the National Council of Higher Education Resources (NCHER), a
national trade association. As a New Jersey State Authority, HESAA is choosing not to
contribute its resources to support an organization that seeks to preempt state
oversight of student loan servicers. "On behalf of New Jersey's students and
families, we are taking a stand against NCHER's efforts to lobby against states’
ability to protect student borrowers," said David Socolow, HESAA's Executive
Director. "We do not support NCHER's goal of federal preemption that would make
it more difficult for New Jersey to regulate servicers of student
loans.”
HESAA is the sole agency responsible for providing New Jersey
students and families with the financial information and resources to pursue
higher education. |
