Next Steps

  • The New Jersey Higher Education Student Assistance Authority (HESAA) will receive your FAFSA information within 3-5 business days.
  • If you are a new student, create an NJFAMS account here – which is where you will be able to view your eligibility for any State aid.
  • Both new and returning students can review their “Award status” in NJFAMS.
  • In December 2024, HESAA will begin requesting information from students. If you are asked to submit additional information to HESAA for your state aid grants, you will receive an email from NJFAMS@hesaa.org.
  • All students should continue to monitor the customized ‘To Do List’ in your NJFAMS account to see if there is any additional documentation you might owe the New Jersey Higher Education Student Assistance Authority (HESAA).

Helpful Tips for 2025-2026 Academic Year

  • When completing the registration form for NJFAMS, make sure you choose the right option. If you have a social security number, choose Social Security Number, if you have an ITIN, choose ITIN, if you don't have a social security number or ITIN, choose Neither.
  • Make sure your NJFAMS account has the most up-to-date email address saved to your profile. Keep an eye on your inbox (and your spam folder) for any emails from HESAA in addition to regularly checking the ‘To Do List’ in your NJFAMS account for any updates or requests for information.
  • If HESAA requests additional information or verification from you through NJFAMS, make sure to submit all requested information by no later than October 1, 2025. If you do not upload requested documents by this deadline, your financial aid award is subject to cancellation.
  • If you have any additional questions about NJFAMS or State aid in general, send us an email at customercare@hesaa.org.
