Applying to College

Apply to the schools that most suit your interests and your objectives.  You can obtain applications by contacting the college or apply online through the college's web site.

Completing Your College Application

You may be required to complete an application for each school in which you have an interest.  However, there are alternatives to completing multiple applications.  You should ask your target schools if they participate in electronic and online resources.

  • Your application is your first introduction to a college
  • Complete your application and your essay on blank paper so you can make corrections before entering on the actual form
  • Ensure your application is clean, neat and complete
  • Proofread your application and essay
  • Make a copy of your application and any attachments for your records
  • Note the school's application deadlines and submit your application well in advance

Getting Admitted

  • Admission requirements vary by schools
  • Four-year schools will carefully review your application and may require a personal interview
  • County, two-year schools have open admissions policies
    • If you have a high school diploma or a general education development certificate (GED) you are guaranteed admission to the county college that serves your area
    • Some programs have additional entrance requirements - check with your school

Early Admissions

  • Some schools have early admission policies
  • Applying for early admission may be the choice for you if you're absolutely certain which school you want to attend
  • Early admissions policies can restrict or prohibit you from applying to other schools
  • If you are uncertain about the school or need more information about costs and financial aid, carefully consider the pros and cons before seeking early admission
